Who? What? Why?

Hey there!

The name’s Rochelle. If you’ve made it all the way to the about page of my crazy, unkempt corner of the internet then you deserve an award or something… I’ll call it the “Welcome to my blog” award….badge in progress…

I hail from the great state of Texas. I am a twenty-something avid reader, traveler, adventurer, and photographer….and because it pays the bills; an accountant. I’ve got a wanderer’s heart and soul that seeps into all areas in my life, even my reading habits. Wandering from book to book, genre to genre, medium to medium.

You’ll find mostly bookish musings here, although, that could change at any moment….just depends on what I decide to share here and when…but most likely it’ll be bookish sh*t.

I am a self-proclaimed lectiophile and bibliophile. Truly. I have such a voracious appetite for reading that I have a “to read” list that’s dangerously close to four digits *bead of sweat rolls down temple as a small smile forms*. I’ve been devouring books since I was young. I was the kid who enjoyed the forced “library reading days” when I was in school. There was a brief six year period where I didn’t read as much as I would have liked, because you know; college.

Now, you may be wondering; “What is a lectiophile? I’m familiar with there term bibliophile, but what does lectiophile mean?” Well, my friend take a seat and let me edumacate you; lectio is Latin for reading and you’re probably already familiar with the “phile” ending by now since the internet has made hashtags a huge success and everything can end in “phile” to signify your obsession with something. So, put them together and you have a term for an individual that is reading obsessed. *waves with fingers (all in the fingers, instead of at the wrist)*

I like books in all forms but a real book, with all its tactile glory, is my preferred form. I collect books like a teen collects “likes” from social media: ooooobbbsessively. I aspire to have a huge library within my own home and currently have about 275 books on my shelves, a large number of which are unread *sheepish grin*. Primarily, I read and own hardcover editions since carrying a book with me EVERYWHERE I GO is tough on paperbacks. *throws book into purse, on the way out the door* I read digitally when I travel (mass quantities of books in a portable form, duuuhhh!), and I listen to audiobooks on every weekday commute. I read all sorts of genres and I’m constantly bouncing between them. Fantasy, Science Fiction, and Dystopian might be my favorites for their true escapism qualities. However, thrillers are quickly making their way into that Favorite-Categories category.

Have a question for me? Go ahead and ask. Form is at the bottom here. (As a rule here; asking does not mean I’ll tell you. However, you’ll never know if you don’t ask. *wink*)

Have a book you want to pick my brain about? Go ahead and message me. If I haven’t read it yet, I will consider it and let you know if I plan to in the future. (No promises, because I got “wants” of my own ya know.)

My Review Style

I loathe long, drawn out reviews. It is my distinct intent to keep my book reviews short and to the point. I don’t like rehashing extensive details that can be found in a synopsis provided for a book. I link to the book’s page on Goodreads, so you can always find the synopsis super easy. In my reviews, I focus on the story/plot, the characters, the writing, and how they make me feel as the reader all while trying to refrain from spoiling anything for a future reader. (You’re welcome) I’m not the type to fill my reviews with GIFs (no significant reason for that, I’m just lazy), so if that’s what you were hoping for, then I can definitely point you in the direction of some of my fellow book-bloggers that do use GIFs in their reviews.

Rating System

  • 0 – ★ = Hard pass!
  • ★★ = Meh. You aren’t missing anything.
  • ★★★ = Worth picking up.
  • ★★★★ = Great! (But it’s not perfect.)
  • ★★★★★ = Stop what you’re doing and read this book, deprive yourself of sleep, call in sick, do not pass GO, and do not collect $200.

That’s basically it. Enjoy. (Or don’t, it’s all opinions anyway.)
